Tyson Foods FSQA Manager in Zeeland, Michigan
This position is responsible for leading and ensuring the overall functions of the Food Safety & Quality Assurance department. Provide oversight and monitoring of operational processes for compliance with policies and procedures to include, but not limited to GMP, SSOP, HACCP, SQF, and other regulatory and company pre-requisite programs, audits (internal and third party), and supporting company or customer FSQA programs. Plan, coordinate, implement, and monitor allfood safety & quality assurance programs and activities, provide quality-related technical services, and participate in the review of product quality and process control issues. This position communicates closely with production, purchasing, sales and R&D regarding acceptance, rejection and disposition of raw materials and finished products and is accountable for monitoring and ensuring a high standard of food processing sanitation at the pre-operational and operational stages of production. Lead and administer the FSQA department ensuring the highest level of accountability and value for customers and stakeholders. Responsibilities include directs all activities related to food safety instilling a zero tolerance and continuous improvement attitude throughout the department; direct all activities related to food safety and quality assurance instilling an absolute commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction; provide departmental leadershipand support through daily actions, coaching, and guidance to the quality team; share ownership of product and processing issues with production management; manages the activities of the quality assurance department in a manner that keeps plant and upper management fully informed on any issues and assists in achieving quality/food safety goals; maintain measurement systems, process control programs and auditing processes, as tools to verify that customer expectations and company standards are being met; actively participate in new product and new process development and implementation; utilization of specification and project tools to update and approve product specifications and master data and governance documents; manage SQF programs and maintain SQF level 3 certification; participates in developing department AOP, LRB, and manages budget; demonstrates the technical / functional skills to complete job responsibilities--this includes - knowledgeof regulations (FSIS and FDA), global standards, formulations (science/chemistry), food microbiology, sanitation, R&D process, and continuous improvement methodologies; ability to get work done through others; effective at managing and developing individuals and teams; project management-- ability to manage people and projects - simple to complex; effective at managing multiple priorities; stays focused and spends time on things that are most important; manages complexity and contradiction; can effectively cope and lead through change and ambiguity; makes good decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment.
Education: BS degree in related field or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience: 5+ years food processing experience required with 3-5 years management experience (performance management, staff management); 3-5 years management of food safety and quality assurance programs preferred; USDA/FSIS experience is required and FDA experience a plus. GFSI experience required, and SQF Certification preferred.
Communication skills: Ability to build relationships, influence, and collaborate, within and across departments; demonstrates managerial courage, resolves conflicts and communicates well with all levels in the organization.
Computer Skills: Standard computer skills
Special Skills: HACCP certification required and SQF certification preferred.
Supervisory: Manage 4+ direct reports
