Amentum Lead Maintenance Mechanic in Washington, District Of Columbia

Amentum is seeking a highly skilled Lead Maintenance Mechanic to join our facility maintenance team of multi-skilled technicians in Washington DC .

Must be a US Citizen and with a Top Security/SCI clearance.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for repairs, replacement, and modifications of wood/metal or other materials utilized in framework, rafters, trusses, interior and exterior trim, staircases and other wood or wood substitute articles, building, structural additions, modifications, or repairs.

  • Initially plans work and complete from layout to final assembly by interpreting blueprints, sketches, drawings, or verbal instructions.

  • Determines methods, techniques, materials required and sequence of work operations.

  • Completes work by any of the accepted methods and techniques of the trade.

  • Obtains such things as horizontal and vertical trueness, precision fits and joints, and a finished appearance.

  • Ensures structural soundness of completed work, which involves understanding work and stress points and ensuring proper reinforcement, propping, and bracing.

  • Layout and install forms for concrete work, places and finish concrete as needed.

  • Uses such tools as spirit level, dividers, calipers and marking gauges, framing squares, jointers, shapers, lathes, table saw etc. as well as common hand and power tools associated with the carpenter trade.

  • Read and interpret trade methods and techniques.

  • Read and interprets blueprints, drawings, and sketches.

  • Understand and apply local, state, and federal building codes.

  • Able to layout foundation, stairs, wall partitions ceiling systems and roof rafters etc.

  • Determine a wide variety of materials and equipment needed to accomplish work.

  • Installation of exterior siding, roofing, trim, interior wall boards, insulation, etc.

  • Installation of doors, windows, cabinets, shelving, and floor tile/carpet, suspended ceiling system a variety of wood trims.

  • Perform, layout and clean up demolition projects as assigned.

  • May be assigned other non-related duties to support zone maintenance crews in a variety of facilities, and equipment.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School graduate with one (1) year certificate from an accredited college or university or five (5) years or more related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must possess trade certificates or have three (3) more related years of related experience in the carpenter work force.

  • Must maintain a valid state driver license and be qualified to operate general purpose vehicles.

  • Ability to write routing reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employee of organizations.

  • Ability to apply basic math to estimate square footage, square yards, cubic foot/yards, linear or board feet, and quality of items needed to accomplish job.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral , diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment

  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.

  • Occasionally exposed to wet, and/or humid conditions, high precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, or heat and risk of electrical shock.

  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.

  • Frequently required to walk, use hand to fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear and taste or smell.

  • Requires climbing on ladders, scaffolding, and platforms.

  • Standing, bending, and working in cramped areas, lifting, and carrying tools and equipment which occasionally may weigh over 40 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this position includes vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust and focus.
