Mississippi Department of Corrections Correctional Officer in Walnut Grove, Mississippi

This entry-level work involves responsibility for maintaining order and discipline among offenders at a State institution or prison. Incumbents are responsible for the custody, industry, and treatment of residents and offenders for specific periods of time. Work also includes maintaining order, observing residents and offenders, and supervising work assignment details. Work may include acting as advisor to residents and offenders concerning their personal problems. Incumbents work under the direct supervision of an administrative superior.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Education: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED or High School Equivalency Diploma).

NOTE:  Permanent employment is contingent upon successful completion after hire of the training curriculum/program at the designated training facility.

 Special Training and Age Requirements: Applicants must attend/complete the Mississippi Department of Corrections Correctional Officer Training Academy; must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, and must possess any and all minimum qualifications necessary to attend the designated training facility.

Employees in this job classification under the age of twenty-one (21) shall be assigned to posts designated as non-peace officer status posts. Previous employees under the age of twenty-one (21) who have successfully completed the MDOC Correctional Officer Training Academy may be considered for reemployment.

Applicants must pass a drug test and packground check, no felony convictions, applicants are not required to apply with an application or resume prior to onsite interview.

Required Document: Incumbent must possess a valid driver's license from Mississippi or from a contiguous state.
