Position Overview ThePeer Support Specialist (PSS), as part of the primary care treatment team, provides peer supportive services to develop meaningful and trusting relationship with patients with mental health and/or substance use disorders. This position reports to the Integrated Behavioral Health Manager.

THIS POSITION OFFERS A 40-HOUR WORKWEEK, NO WEEKENDS, FULL BENEFITS PACKAGE, 12 PAID HOLIDAYS, BI-WEEKLY PAY!

Essential Tasks

  • Provide individualized coaching and support to patients.
  • Assist patients with increasing social support networks of relatives, friends and/or significant others.
  • Establish therapeutic rapport by openness and trust.
  • Interact effectively with individuals, families, and involved agencies to promote active recovery treatment and relapse prevention.
  • Provide essential expertise and consultation to promote a culture in which each individuals point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected and incorporated into the treatment process.
  • Assist clinical staff in the development of patient focused plan of care.

Experience and Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • North Carolina Peer Support Specialist Certificate.
  • One year of experience working with persons with mental health or substance use disorders, preferred.
  • Relevant personal life experience, preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Microsoft Word.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to demonstrate empathy.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's license.

Schedule Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm 8-hour shift Day shift, some nights and weekends

Physical Requirements

  • Potential sitting or standing for long periods of time, occasional bending, stooping, lifting including of patients, reaching forward and overhead. Proper lifting techniques required.
  • May require walking primarily on a level surface for periods throughout the day.
  • Frequent computer work required.
  • Must be able to travel freely in the local area; between clinics, hospitals, health departments, etc.
