Cleveland-Cliffs Steel, LLC Maintenance Technician - Motor Winder in Steelton, Pennsylvania

Reference #: ST2402 Cleveland-Cliffs Steelton has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Technician Armature Winder (Motor Winder) at our Harrisburg, PA area operation. As a Motor Winder, you can expect to see your work everywhere; the employees you work with every day help to make the steel that is used in building nations. Motor Winders perform all functions (mechanical) necessary to maintain operating and service equipment. Safety and quality are always the first priorities in Cleveland-Cliffs.

Summary of Responsibilities Receive general instructions and work assignments, interpret drawings and wiring diagrams, and plan work. Removes brake wheels, pulleys, pinions, and couplings with a gear puller. Repairs or replaces coils, leads, terminals, brushes, holders, etc. Dismantles, repairs and tests, rotors, stators, commutators, motors, generators, rewinds coils, etc. Assemble motors and check bearings for tolerances and test for proper operation. Interprets wiring diagrams and sketches. Works in shop and field and does job planning. Makes temporary repairs to minimize delays. This is a multi-crafted position in a heavy industrial steel mill environment. Other responsibilities as assigned.Minimum Qualifications Must be able to follow company safety and other procedures. Applicant must have 3-5 years of industrial or commercial experience or 2 years of technical schooling in an electronics-related field. Will have experience in all facets of electrical motor repair, including stripping and dismantling old windings, clean out slots, and grinding and repairing burnt spots in laminations. Insulates and replaces coils; installs slot wedges; solders leads and connections; ties in coils; varnishes and tests. Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, or high reach and be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be forklift trained. Must be at least 18 years of age. Successful applicants must be able to work full-time rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, and have stable employment records (preferably in an industrial environment). Qualified applicants will be required to pass a pre-interview Electrical Maintenance aptitude test. Successful applicants will be required to complete a post-offer background review including a criminal conviction and work history check. Candidates must submit to and pass a physical exam which includes a hair follicle drug screen. Good troubleshooting, and team-building skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, walking, use of hands, etc. is required. Union Membership:  Cleveland-Cliffs has a contract with the United Steelworkers that requires each employee hired into this position to join the Union.Preferred Qualifications Experience in a union environment Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
