Under general direction of the CTE Secondary Director, the Business & Marketing Education Teacher provides leadership in an educational environment that

encourages and nurtures learning for all students. Provides supervision to students in a variety of school related settings, monitors and evaluates student outcomes, develops, selects or modifies lessons plans to ensure all student needs are met, and maintains appropriate records and follows all policies and procedures of Hinds Community College. Provides quality standards-based instruction in the area of Business & Marketing Education, assesses and encourages student progress, and manages an effective learning environment to maximize student achievement.

JOB TITLE: Business, Marketing and Finance Instructor

GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

This endorsement licenses a person to teach the following secondary courses:

992004 Business, Marketing, and Finance I

992005 Business, Marketing, and Finance II

992404 Fundamentals of Business and Entrepreneurship

992403 Marketing

992309 Management

992003 Finance

Minimum Requirements for this Endorsement:

  1. Education: - Applicant must have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher education in the area of Business or hold a currently valid five-year license in 105 Business Education, 405 Business Management, 192 Social Studies, or 193 Economics.

  2. Technology Literacy and Related Assessment of that Competency: - Applicant must validate technology competency by attaining the established minimum score or higher on an assessment approved by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE). The assessment must be directly related to technology competency required by the grade level and subject matter being taught. Approved assessments for this license are IC3 or other approved MDE substitute.

  3. Occupational Experience and Related Assessment of that Experience: - Applicants with a bachelor’s or higher degree must have at least one year of verifiable occupational experience in the past ten years. Experience must be appropriate to the subject to be taught. (Exception: Those teachers that have a currently valid five-year license are not required to have the occupational experience.)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES , include the following.

Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.

The CTE Business/Marketing Teacher instructs the student in academic and technical content to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter an occupation. The CTE Business/Marketing teacher is responsible for the following items to further the educational mission of the school:

  • Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development and physical health

*Prepare materials and classroom for instruction and class activities

*Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by law, school policy and administrative regulation.

*Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.

*Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injury and damage.

*Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods, such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.

*Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.

*Instruct students in the knowledge and skills required in a specific occupation or occupational field, using a systematic plan of lectures, discussions, audio-visual presentations, and laboratory, shop and field studies.

*Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.

*Assign and grade class work and homework.

*Confer with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.

*Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.

*Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their resource needs.

*Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.

*Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of states and schools.

*Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.

*Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests.

*Attend staff meetings and serve on committees, as required.

  • Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of secondary school programs for the benefit of the student.
