Job Description

ESG Operations, an Inframark Company, is hiring a Wastewater Maintenance Supervisor in Opelika, AL. The essential function of the position within the organization is to supervise repair and maintenance of the City’s wastewater treatment plants and sewage pumping stations. The position works independently, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Supervise staff, including training, selecting or recommending selection, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and terminating or recommending termination.

  • Perform inspections of wastewater equipment periodically to ensure proper functioning and compliance with local and federal laws and regulations.

  • Oversee and assist with repairs and preventive maintenance of equipment at the City’s wastewater plants and lift stations.

  • Review and approve expenditures for area of responsibility; provides fiscal data for the preparation of the annual budget; orders parts and equipment as required.

  • Perform clerical tasks such as preparing work schedules, conduct research to establish improved departmental functioning, or reviewing completed work orders of personnel of responsibility.

  • Gather information/data to support periodic and special reports documenting activities for area of responsibility.

  • Attend or conducts staff and other professional meetings to exchange information; attend in-service training and technical or professional classes, seminars, or conferences to improve technical or professional skills.

  • Supervise or direct others by determining or interpreting work procedures, assigning specific duties, maintaining harmonious relations, and promoting efficiency

  • Other duties may be assigned, as this is not an exhaustive list.

  • Attend safety classes, reinforce and comply with company safety policies

  • Work harmoniously with ESG employees and the public and comply with ESG policies

Qualifications

It requires eight years of related experience. High School Diploma or GED and the equivalent of one year of college or specialized vocational training in automotive mechanics or a closely related field. Must have a valid state driver’s license and meet minimum driving standards.

Knowledge of:

  • Achieving minor economies and/or preventing minor losses through the handling of or accounting for materials, supplies, or small amounts of money.

  • Responsibility for the safety and health of others and/or for occasional enforcement of the standards of public

safety or health.

Skill in:

  • Handling or using machines, tools, equipment or work aids involving moderate latitude for judgment regarding attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items such as hand or power tools, bush hog, or tractor.

  • Performing coordinating work involving guidelines and rules with constant problem solving which requires continuous, close attention for accurate results or frequent exposure to unusual pressure.

  • Making decisions with minor impact - affecting only those in immediate work area.

Ability to:

  • Compute or perform arithmetic operations.

  • Use basic algebra to calculate variables and formulas, and/or basic geometry, to calculate plane and solid figures; may compute discounts, interest, ratios and proportions, and percentages.

  • Read journals and manuals; compose specialized reports using proper format and grammar; speak to groups of coworkers and people outside the organization.

  • Take responsibility for the actions of others, requiring development of procedures and constant decisions affecting subordinate workers, City customers, or others in the general public; works in a very fluid environment with guidelines but significant variations.

Working conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, bright and/or dim light, dust or pollen, intense noise levels, vibration, fumes or noxious odors. All required safety standards shall be adhered to mitigate risk from moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, heights, blood-borne pathogens, traffic, animals and wildlife, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other identified hazards.

Physical requirements

This position requires frequent standing, kneeling, bending and climbing. The employee must be able to use hands to operate and manipulate tools and equipment. This position requires very heavy physical exertion including the ability to lift over 50 pounds and exert over 100 pounds of force on a regular basis. The employee must be willing to work non-standard and overtime hours as required. The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and depth perception.
