ZF North America, Inc. Engineer III - Resident in Northville, Michigan

Job Duties: Responsible to provide on-site engineering support at customer site(s) for product launch/development initiatives, supporting installation/integration of ZF products in customer engineering projects; Serve as technical liaison to customer for engineering applications (e.g., support communication; support installation/integration projects and product launch/development activities; provide technical clarification/explanation of ZF product specifications and component functions; support reports/data for customer presentations); Coordinate with internal teams/departments (e.g., communicate customer needs/requirements; provide engineering direction to designers; work with engineering teams (inclu. project management, design, control and planning departments) and departments within ZF global R&D; support testing department; interface with manufacturing on product design/manufacturability and tooling requirements); Execute resident engineering activities (e.g., verify content/accuracy of drawings & BOM, and maintain the same in SAP; issue prototype orders; issue test requests; attend customer meetings; provide layouts, sketches and specifications; coordinate, plan and execute DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, CAE analyses, and other design/release documents (system, subsystem, & component); participate in APQP process, PFMEAs, Control Plans & VA/VE); Troubleshoot and determine cause of issues in customer prototypes; Provide cost reduction recommendations; Participate in continuous improvement programs, support team efforts and corrective actions; Ensure compliance with IATF16949; and Maintain professional/technical knowledge and engage in professional development activities. A hybrid (in-office and telecommute) work schedule is available. 

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, or related field, plus 2 years of experience in engineering (or related) occupations for product development, and demonstrated experience with: Applications engineering, including managing the engineering phase (including requirements, design, test, validate, release) for taking a core technology and making it functional within the customer environment; Product design and development, including the creation of 3D math, generation of component and assembly drawings, requesting and reviewing CAE, and making iterative changes from initial award to product launch; Use of KPIs for project management; Supporting Gate Reviews for project management; Project management, including creating and updating timelines or milestones; Ownership of DVP&R, including specification review and interpretation, sample planning, scheduling, communication with test technicians, and report generation; Creation and maintenance of DFMEA during development phase with PFMEA integration and relation; Use of Six Sigma methods and principles, along with supporting statistical analysis, in component development; BOM management, including creation of part numbers and relationship and ordering of components and subassemblies; Product reliability and validation testing, including using reliability and confidence analysis to determine quantity of samples and test duration requirements; and Using problem solving methods (i.e., Red X, 8D, 5Y, or Fishbone Diagram) for root cause analysis performed on part returns (e.g., warranty, test failure). In lieu of the above-stated education and experience requirements, we will accept a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, or related field, and demonstrated experience with the above.
