NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing Chief of Staff to the Vice Provost for Research / Chief Research Officer in New York, New York

Position Summary

The Chief of Staff (COS) will have a critical role in supporting the Vice Provost for Research / Chief Research Officer (VPR/CRO) as her leadership team advances a strategic science and technology transformation agenda for New York University. This role will join a diverse team committed to supporting the pursuit of inquiry and innovation to impact real-world societal challenges. The COS will lead all day-to-day operational activities and functions for the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR), including administrative support, executive communications, resource allocation, and project management. As a key member of the VPR/CRO’s leadership team, the COS will serve as the primary point-of-contact for all internal and external constituents, providing strategic and tactical guidance for OVPR deliverables and incoming requests. This highly visible role will manage transformative initiatives on behalf of the VPR/CRO that span NYU’s research community, including engagement with faculty, researchers, students, and staff across all schools, institutes, and global locations. The Chief of Staff must be detail-oriented and highly adaptable to changing priorities, while contextualizing the bigger picture of NYU’s science and technology strategy and vision for the future. Importantly, the Chief of Staff must be adept at building rapport and connections with other University functions. The incumbent should be a diplomatic problem solver with sound judgment and the ability to influence others. Challenges should be approached with a solutions-focused mindset and discretion for confidential matters. Additionally, the Chief of Staff should be an engaging, multidisciplinary communicator that can tailor messaging based on audiences and ensure all relevant OVPR stakeholders are well-informed. The Chief of Staff will also represent the Chief Research Officer’s interests at select internal and external meetings with faculty, staff, students, alumni, senior university administrators as well as government and community leaders. This person should be well-versed in interfacing with other Chiefs of Staff and the University PMO to ensure strategic initiatives are moving forward according to plan.

Qualifications

Required Education:Bachelor's DegreePreferred Education:Bachelor's DegreeRequired Experience:7+ years Progressively responsible experience in academic administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A strong communicator and problem solver with a proven ability to handle multiple priorities under deadlines while maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detailPreferred Experience:7+ yearsRequired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Strong organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to develop and sustain effective relationships in support of strategic goals. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment without sacrificing work quality. Good judgment, tact, diplomacy, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality is essential. Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, networking, leadership, project management, organization, and multitasking skills, along with strong research and presentation skills. Prior experience with operational and staff supervision. Ability to communicate sensitive information verbally and in writing to individuals at all levels. The incumbent must be able to confidently and appropriately respond to highly sensitive and confidential situations in a variety of settings (in-person, audio/video conferencing, email) on behalf of the VPR/CRO. The successful candidate will be able to work in a team environment and collaborate with others on deadline-driven assignments. Strong ability to translate priorities into field decisions with excellent problem-solving and influencing skills. Highly creative and capable of developing new ideas for engaging events and forums. Possesses a client-focused approach and adept at balancing multiple tasks. Willingness to take responsibility and can perform at high levels with minimal oversight. Technologically adept and familiar with crafting engaging presentations and communications that clearly and concisely reflect strategic messaging for a variety of audiencesPreferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Experience working across an international platform. Experience supporting executives or a C-Suite equivalent office. Experience in corporate communications is a plus.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $120,000.00 to USD $140,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
