Description of Job

TheDeposit Controlunit, within our Financial Services Division, serves as the payments experts for all transactions processed regardless of tax type or payment method.

The typical day as a Tax Examiner I:

This position is with the Research Unit within Deposit Control. Critical thinking, problem solving and attention to detail will be critical in this role in order to balance financial transactions, find and correct errors and reach out to taxpayers regarding their account. This position will collaborate with vendors, other work units and agencies to come to a solution for issues. If you're ready to grow your career at DOR, then this job may be for you!

Primary Duties:

Balancing Accounts -

  • Analyze to ensure credits and debits posted to DOR’s and Treasurer’s bank accounts are in balance with the Gentax system.

  • Prepare Cash Receipt (CR) documents for management approval.

  • Resolve tax payment issues with appropriate work units and stakeholders, researching all options.

Payment Reversals -

  • Investigate and track returned payments (checks and EFT’s) from financial institutions.

  • Reverse payments in GenTax confirming the correct payment is being reversed and the return reason is correctly noted in the system.

  • Reconcile reversed transactions with daily bank statements and Reversed Payments report in Gentax.

Payment Research, Posting and Liaison -

  • Research, process and post all exception items timely while working with other units.

  • Notify the payer regarding payment submission errors.

  • Answer inquiries regarding processed payments, exception payments or missing payments.

This position occasionally reports to the Lakewood Office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must meet one of the following or any combination of experience/education to meet the minimum (MQ) qualifications:

Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:

High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

AND

Two (2) years of experience in banking, accounting, bookkeeping and/or data analysis.

Substitutions:

Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a banking environment or role

  • Proficiency with Google Sheets and Mail

  • Experience in a customer facing role

  • Advanced proficiency with Excel

  • Analytical skills

  • Experience with data analysis

  • State experience using Gentax

  • Experience working on a team

  • Attention to detail

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication

    Conditions of Employment with the CDOR :

    Employees are in a position of public trust in the performance of their job duties and must operate in a manner that maintains the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and public confidence.

    As a condition of employment with the CDOR, all personnel must file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and pay tax obligations, therefore all employees must undergo a pre-employment evaluation of their tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with this policy. Final candidates must also complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment. Certain positions based on duties may require scheduled background investigations .
