Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. Manager Plant Procurement in Ishpeming, Michigan

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for a Procurement Manager at our Tilden Mine near Ishpeming, Michigan. This position is responsible for overseeing all procurement activities that occur at the Tilden Mine including specific sourcing initiatives. The position will require significant communication and coordination with Operations, Maintenance, Warehousing, Inventory Control, and Finance. The manager is responsible for continually working to improve internal customer service while reducing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of purchased products and services. Further functions include promoting efficiency in transactional workload, managing supplier performance and relationships, and coaching Procurement staff in professional development.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Buying responsibility for assigned commodities and services

  • Oversee approved commodity sourcing strategies to achieve material cost reduction targets

  • Oversee local procurement activities including procurement of items for inventory and direct requirements.

  • Ensure the utilization of preferred delivery programs (vendor held, keep-fill, consignment, etc.)

  • Review direct purchases on a proactive basis to identify candidates to be added to the ERP catalog

  • Automate the procure-to-pay process through Ellipse functionality

  • Ensure items set to bypass purchasing meet the procedural selection criteria

  • Manage long-range procurement plans and strategies for commodities managed at the Operations

  • Review and approve Requests for Information (RFI) and Request for Quote/Proposal (RFQ/P) for higher dollar commodities

  • Ensure organizational financial goals are met, including budget and savings

  • Direct work efforts of Procurement Staff to ensure productive, efficient, and accurate procurement transactions

  • Manage supplier relationships, track supplier performance and communicate performance feedback to suppliers

  • Build and maintain relationships with Cliffs’ internal customers and ensure delivery in accordance with agreed upon terms

  • Maintain close relationships with business units and management to stay current on events affecting product demand and supply

  • Pursue continuous improvement / TCO projects both internally and externally together with initiative teams, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and Suppliers

  • Establish, track and evaluate the costs, benefits, and performance criteria for all Supply Chain activities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors degree in business or supply chain or related

  • 5 to 7 years Procurement, Sourcing, Warehousing or related function experience

  • Strong financial analytical and negotiation skills

  • Strong leadership and communication skills

  • Ability to create and execute a strategic direction consistent with the company strategy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess the following: CPM, CPSM, CIRM, CPIM

  • Industrial Mining experience/Supplier knowledge
