The incumbent plans, directs and participates in buildings and grounds maintenance activities. The work is performed under supervision of the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds with wide leeway for independent judgment. Supervision is exercised over the work of the Building Maintenance Mechanics and Building Maintenance Workers. Does related work as required.Work Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week, with benefitsSalary: $26.4962-$33.5375/HR (CSEA Union)Location: Cortland County Buildings and Grounds DepartmentStatus: Competitive, ProvisionalBenefits: New York State Retirement System, Low Deductible Health Insurance Plan, Generous Paid Time Off, Tuition Assistance, Eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.PROMOTIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:Promotion is limited to current Cortland County employees who are permanently employed in the non-competitive class position of Building Maintenance Mechanic or the competitive class position of HVAC Systems Technician and have served continuously for two (2) years immediately preceding the filing of an application.OPEN COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:(a)Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associates degree or higher in construction technology, business administration, mechanic technology or related field and one (1) year of supervisor experience; OR(b)Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in general construction and one (1) year of supervisor experience; OR(c)An equivalent combination of training and experience as described in (a) and (b) above. NOTE: Degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, applicant must provide independent verification of equivalency.
