Education

  • Required High School Diploma/General Educational Development (GED)

  • Prior completion of one of the following programs: Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT or a comparable healthcare field.

  • In lieu of a formal program, equivalent work experience in a healthcare setting accepted

Summary:

The Clinical Assistant provides support to medical practitioners providing patient care services in an ambulatory setting. Responsibilities include both clinical and administrative duties necessary to provide quality patient care in a medical group practice setting. Some of the duties include but are not limited to: rooming patients, assisting providers with procedures, relaying lab and other test results to patients, obtaining ECG's, and handling specimens.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates effective and courteous Customer, Physician/Practice Staff, and other hospital staff communication skills

  • Answers all calls promptly and courteously

  • Responds to and resolves issues promptly through effective Communications. Uses appropriate chain of command

  • Feedback is provided in a constructive manner

  • Participates in problem solving groups as requested

  • Gives accurate and timely patient care reports

  • Greets patients & families courteously & assist them when needed

  • Helps administrative/office staff with sharing phone call coverage

  • Is proficient in telephone messaging per policy

  • Collects, reviews and documents patient's current health status and history according to standard

  • Is knowledgeable in preparing patients to be seen in the practice. Documents all aspects of the nursing service according to hospital and practice standards

  • Performs and documents results of point of care testing and appropriate interventions, EKG's, visual acuity, audiometry, pulse oximetry, and wound dressings are performed and documented per practice guidelines, (after orientation is complete)

  • Follow-up visits are scheduled at time of discharge, per protocol and Patient/Family, etc. is notified of next appointment

  • Assist physicians with admissions by calling registration, call report to the Unit, photocopy all practice documentation to go with the patient, arrange transport. Completes all paperwork and sends with patient

  • Performs ongoing patient screening, planning and implementation of patient care by effectively implementing the care, and teaching plan in collaboration with provider and clinical leader

  • Ensures sterile technique(s) are maintained: Patient and room are ready when the provider arrives. Consent is signed and available. Room and supplies are processed according to organization Infection Control policies

Other Information:

  • Working Environment: Busy, often stressful, ambulatory setting providing direct patient care to all ages

  • Current CPR Certification required

  • Prior hospital or PCP office experience preferred
